The Shadow of Thy Heart: A Silent Devotion

I stand within the shade, a silent ghost,
While thou art bathed in morning’s golden fire.
Of all my burdens, this I cherish most:
To hold my tongue and hide my soul’s desire.

I mark the fleeting grace upon thy brow,
The secret sighs that no one else can see.
Yet lips remain seal’d tight by solemn vow,
Lest spoken truth should sever thee from me.

‘Tis better thus, to love thee from afar,
Than risk the frost of cold rejection’s gaze.
I am the night that worships distinct star,
Content to walk unseen amidst thy ways.

But should the sun retreat and shadows fall,
And silence claim the world in soft decree,
Perchance thou’lt hear my heart’s unspoken call,
And find the love that waits eternally.

An ode to the quiet agony and exquisite beauty of unrequited affection, crafted for those who love deeply from the safety of the shadows.
