The Shadowed Flame: An Elegy for Forbidden Love

Beneath the pallid mask of marble stone,
I hide a burning sea of unshed tears;
A weary ghost who walks the path alone,
And carries through the dark his silent fears.

Like some pale bloom upon a barren plain,
My worship grows unseen by mortal eyes.
A sacred fire, a sweet and throbbing pain,
That lives on stolen looks and stifled sighs.

The cruel Fates have drawn a heavy line,
And built a wall that we may never breach;
I gaze upon a star that is not mine,
Forever mocking, just beyond my reach.

So hear the silence screaming in the night,
The hollow echo of a love denied.
I love thee without hope or claim of right,
With all the passion I am forced to hide.

In the tradition of the great Romantics, this piece explores the exquisite agony of unrequited longing. It speaks to the universal truth that the most profound connections are often those that must remain unacknowledged, surviving only in the sanctuary of the soul.
