The Absence and The Vow
Upon this bed where lonely shadows creep,
I reach for thee amidst the linen cold;
While silence guards the realm of broken sleep,
The dawn brings grey instead of morning gold.
Yet see! A light breaks through the glass so bright,
Thy written word, a star within the gloom.
It pierces through the vastness of the night,
To banish ghosts of sorrow from the room.
Though leagues of earth may keep our hearts apart,
And cruel miles delay the tender kiss,
No map can bind the voyage of the heart,
Nor steal from us the promise of our bliss.
Let time dissolve, let seasons fade and die,
Each setting sun but draws thee near to me.
Beneath the vault of this eternal sky,
My soul shall wait until it rests in thee.
