When soft thy gaze alights upon my soul,
The mists of weary sorrow fade away ;
Thou art the dawn that makes my spirit whole,
The golden light that crowns the waking day.
I watch thy step, so airy and so light,
A grace that dances through the halls of time ;
Thou walkest proud, a vision burning bright,
Inspiring verse within my humble rhyme.
Thy laughter chimes like crystal, pure and keen,
A spring of wit where wisdom flows and gleams ;
My steadfast rock, my quiet, gentle queen,
The anchor of my hopes and wildest dreams.
Too seldom do I speak these words of old,
Yet thou art essence of my earthly breath ;
More precious far than gems or heavy gold,
I’ll love thee ’til the silent hour of death.
