The Lightning of the Soul: A Poem on First Sight

A sudden flash, and all the world turns bright,
A thunderclap within the silent soul.
The common crowd dissolves in blinding light,
And broken fragments now become a whole.

Your gaze met mine, and reason fled away,
A spark distinct amidst the shadows cast.
I know thee not, yet in this disarray,
I find the future that obscures the past.

It is a shock, a swift electric sting,
That binds blind Chance to Destiny’s decree.
No other song the choir of angels sing,
Save this one note of pure felicity.

The tempest fades, the wild heart slows its beat,
To settle in a calm and sacred space.
One fleeting second makes a life complete,
Found in the glory of a stranger’s face.

In the tradition of the great English Romantics, this verse explores the transcendent nature of the first gaze. It speaks to the belief that the soul recognizes its counterpart not through time, but through an instantaneous, divine spark that alters the course of a life forever.
