The Mending of the Heart: A Plea for Peace

A heavy silence hangs upon the room,
Where once our laughter danced in golden light.
I stand amidst the shadows of this gloom,
And rue the words that turned the day to night.

No armor do I wear, no shield of pride,
For vanity is cold when love has fled.
I cast my foolish arrogance aside,
To heal the tear that hangs on what was said.

Forgive the storm that raged within my mind,
The careless thunder of a voice untrue.
In all the world, no solace can I find,
Save in the gentle haven found in you.

Let not the sun go down upon our pain,
But let us bind the bond that fiercey broke.
I promise now, through sunshine and through rain,
To guard the vows that first our hearts awoke.

Reconciliation is the art of prioritizing the ‘us’ over the ‘I’. This poem serves as a vessel for those difficult emotions, transforming regret into a poetic offering. It stands as a testament that love, when tested by fire and mended with sincerity, often grows stronger than it was before the fracture.
