The Silver Bridge: A Ballad of Distant Hearts

Apart we dwell, beneath the vast expanse,
Where shadows creep and day begins to fade;
I cast upon the skies a yearning glance,
To find the ghost of love within the shade.

Behold the Moon, that silver orb on high,
That watches thee and me with equal gaze;
She weaves a bridge across the velvet sky,
And guides my spirit through the starry maze.

Though leagues of earth and sea may intervene,
And cruel distance keeps our hands apart,
Upon that cratered face, a bond unseen
Connects the beating rhythm of my heart.

Sleep soft, my love, beneath her pale white beam,
For time and space must yield to love’s decree;
We meet within the fabric of a dream,
Where I am there, and thou art here with me.

This piece draws heavily upon the Keatsian tradition of finding solace in the immutable beauty of the night. It posits that while physical bodies may be bound by geography, the soul serves no such master, traveling instantly along the beams of moonlight to reunite with the beloved in a realm of pure spiritual connection.
